One of the core elements in most spiritual traditions is the practice of curating one’s own sacred space for intention setting, meditation, or ritual. Most commonly known as an altar, this practice of sacred space curation is quite a personal practice that can support one’s overall spiritual growth.

There is no right or wrong way while creating one’s own altar. It is more of an intuitive moment of creation. Be it small or large, mobile or stationary - it is important to remember the altar will be a sacred place to spark inspiration, gain clarity, perform rituals, and ultimately further empower your spiritual growth.

Think of the altar as a spiritual vision board or gallery, where you collect and arrange various objects and amulets which bring joy and act as anchors for your spirituality. Typically altars are created within one’s home or workspace, today we wanted to focus on how you can create your own travel altar.

A travel altar is a great way to bring your sacred space with you on the go whether you're traveling across the country or working in a new office.

The first thing to think about when creating a travel altar is how you’d like to transport all of your elements. Two of our favorite methods are finding vintage tin boxes or even makeup pouches. Again, there is no way to go wrong here as long as it feels perfect to you.

Once you have your altar box or pouch you can start to fill it with some of your divine and sacred objects that help you set the spiritual mood.

Here are some of our go-to favorites:

1.     Crystals
Crystals represent the element of Earth and are a way to promote emotional, physical, and spiritual healing to your energy and overall body. Each crystal has a specific purpose, intention, and benefit. Take some time to learn about which crystals feel aligned with your intentions or even your trip and add them to your altar.

2.     Palo Santo
Creating an altar is a deeply spiritual practice and considered a divine ritual in many holistic practices. To amplify the intention of such a practice you can begin your altar-building by lighting some Palo Santo, incense, or White Sage to bless the space.

3.     Essential Oils
When traveling one could be restricted in lighting sage or palo santo in certain rentals or hotels. A great alternative to lighting palo santo or sage are essential oils. Great to add to baths, a diffuser or even just smelling the bottle - essential oils are a great way to bring the power of aromatherapy to your sacred altar.
