EDMR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy approach used to treat trauma and symptoms of PTSD. It helps to alleviate the distress associated with these traumatic memories, reform negative beliefs and thinking patterns, and reduce physiological arousal symptoms. During the process of EMDR, the client will briefly interact with traumatic memories in a systematic way while simultaneously focusing on external stimuli.

The client will be directed to follow lateral eye movements, hand tapping, or audio stimulation while recalling past memories. This will then change the association the client previously held with the memory and create more adaptive associations with the past. This type of therapy allows people to heal from symptoms of traumatic distress in a rapid time and create a healthy emotional response to situations that were once thought to take years and years.
